Mother Baby Unit
The Mother Baby Unit offers inpatient and day programs for families who experience difficulties and adjustment following the arrival of a new baby. The unit can accommodate mothers in the antenatal and postnatal period with their babies and can also provide overnight accommodation for fathers.
The Mother Baby Unit offers an inpatient program for babies below 12 months old with sleep and settling difficulties and also for mothers who are experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety or adjustment in the weeks and months after childbirth.

What do I need to bring to hospital?
- Child health care record (green book)
- Sterilising unit and expressing equipment for feeding if required
- Casual day clothing and appropriate footwear.
- Nightwear, dressing gown, slippers
- Toiletries, tissues, hairdryer, personal needs
- Current medications for Mother & Baby
- Clothes, bibs, bunny rugs
- Bottles teats, bottlebrush, formula, feeding cup and spoon
- Disposable nappies
- Baby’s favourite toy
Please do not bring valuables to the hospital.
The sleep settling program provides education and support strategies for babies with unsettled behaviour or feeding difficulties. Every baby is assessed by a Paediatrician who in consultation with the nursing staff will provide an individual plan of care.
For mothers with depression, anxiety or adjustment issues are admitted under the care of a Psychiatrist. This program is based on a holistic treatment model which incorporates medical and psychological approaches through individual and group therapy. Couples counselling is also available for families.
There are a number of programs offered on a day basis:
Mother & Baby Day Program
This 12 week day program is held once a week and is designed for mothers experiencing depression, adjustment issues or anxiety after having their baby.
This group is facilitated by specialised therapists and provides support, education and therapy for mothers and infants with attachment issues. This program runs for 16 weeks, a half day a week.
Circle of Security Parenting Program
This program is for 8 weeks, a half day a week for parents wishing to enhance their parenting skills using the circle of security attachment model of parenting.
Transition to Parenthood Program
This program is designed to assist parents in adjusting to the significant change associated with becoming a parent. Participants attend a half day a week program for 4 weeks.
For mothers experiencing depression or anxiety after the birth of their baby, we can arrange an urgent outpatient appointment with one of our Psychiatrists. You will require a referral from your GP prior to making your appointment. The referral can be faxed to the Consulting Suites on 9468 0120.
